Our tours

why we’re different

Español Deutsch

Never before has Mexico had a designated mountain bike tour operator; mountain biking is our hobby, our profession, and our way of life. Whereas the nearby white water rafting centres can rent you a bike and send you off for a ride, we will take the time to tailor our high-end bikes and routes to your needs, our tri-lingual guides will drive you up to the nearby mountains and guide you down the best trails, in a climate right for you rather than the blistering heat of the nearby coastal regions.

Mountain biking may be our focus, but we endeavour to be the best guides in the region to take you on hiking tours, camping trips, 4x4ing, sightseeing, or even just a plain and simple relaxing break in one of the nearby secret hot water springs…

As already mentioned, we customize our routes depending on your taste, experience and fitness, but on this page you’ll find examples of three different levels of ride we can offer you.

The Taster Tour

The one to go for if you’re not as interested in the cycling as much as the local flora, fauna and coffee! We’ll take you for a relaxing ride through the local coffee plantations and finish at the fantastic coffee museum where you can see the whole production process in person and tickle those taste buds too!

Intermediate

If you already have some cycling or mountain biking experience then take advantage of one of the many intermediate level routes we have to offer. Generally in this area the mountains are so big that if we use vehicles at the start of the day, we give you a headstart with the altitude gain, so that more of your riding will be downhill than uphill. One of our intermediate routes starts at 2200 metres then we’ll descend down the northern side of the Sierra Madre Oriental, probably stopping only to gaze at the jaw-dropping scenery, before pedaling through the last few kilometers of citrus plantations and finally reaching ancient Totonac ruins. If you feel you can handle a longer day, we’ll drive you right to the summit of our local 4300 metre high mountain, and guide you down fifty to sixty kilometers of stunning trails to reach the towns down in the warmer climes at 1300 metres.

Endless downhill

Why suffer on holiday? Take advantage of one of our long suspension travel freeride or all-mountain rigs and we’ll shuttle you up with a guide for as many long-distance downhill trails as you can handle. See our videos to get a taste of the kind of technical trails the region has to offer, and if it’s pure fun you’re after then we’re sure you won’t get bored of the bike-park style trails we’ve taken the time to improve and build ourselves.

Guides

Here at mexicomtb.com we feel it’s important to have the right guide. Our main guide fell in love with mountain biking as a young child and having grown up in England, he studied languages and film in Scotland before moving to Xalapa where he has stuck to his dream of setting up mexicomtb.com He currently competes in national downhill and cross country races, goes trailbuilding regularly, and teaches English in his spare time. His Spanish and English are both fluent, his Portuguese is up there too, and he has a basic level of French. We doubt there’ll be a language barrier on your break with mexicomtb.com!
